Granting Honorary Degrees

An article that appeared on May 31, in the N.Y. Times News Service featured a quotation from TC President Arthur Levine. The article, "Honorary Degrees Granted For Diverse Reasons To Diverse People," discussed the reasons institutions either grant or do not grant honorary degrees. President Levine gave reasons why TC and Columbia grant honorary degrees and said that it’s one way an institution can teach its students a "last lesson" by "showing examples of people who most represent the values the institution stands for."
