In a politically heated move Dallas, Texas is preparing to privatize six public schools by bringing in New York based Edison Schools Inc. This is the largest number of schools to be turned over to Edison yet. Kansas City, Missouri comes in second with five schools turned over to the for-profit management firm. Dallas Independent School District's feels Edison can provide a better education for less money.

Professor Henry Levin director of Teacher College's National Center for the Study of Privatization in Education is quoted saying, "It's basically off-the-shelf stuff that any school could do. I don't see a revolution here."
