The Board of Education in Nutley, New Jersey, is looking into a situation where a veteran teacher in an elementary school allegedly singled out a six year old student to stand for an example of segregation during a lesson on Martin Luther King Jr. and diversity.

Dr. Kuhn was quoted saying that race in general "is a very troubling aspect of identity, so it is ill-advised for authority figures to make categorizations. It's better to let children come up with their own categories."
