The Mongolian State University of Education in Ulaanbaatar presented Gita Steiner-Khamsi, a professor in the Department of International and Transcultural Studies, an honorary doctorate degree in education on January 7.  The degree was conferred by the Mongolian Academic Council for Education and honored Professor Steiner-Khamsi for "supporting and developing Mongolian education reform."  Professor B. Jadamba, President of the Mongolian State University of Education (MSUE ), presented her with a yellow drapery known as a haddag which symbolizes the highest status of a teacher in Mongolia.  Following the ceremony, Professor Steiner-Khamsi gave a public lecture.

The College and MSUE have longstanding institutional ties.  TC representatives have visited Mongolia to support pre-service and in-service teacher reform, and MSUE lecturers and schoolteachers have visited the College to learn about the Professional Development Schools concept from TC's National Center for Restructuring Education, Schools, and Teaching (NCREST).  Alumnae A. Gerelmaa and B. Bolorchimeg accompanied Professor Steiner-Khamsi for the presentation, as did students Mercedes del Rosario and Paul Kim.
