Universities Greet Home-Schoolers With Open Arms

Clive R. Belfield, the associate director of TC's National Center for the Study of Privatization in Education, said research has shown most colleges and universities welcome home-schooled students.  "Most institutions tell us they're happy to let home-schoolers in," Belfield said. "You can go to Princeton or Harvard or Penn."

While some institutions describe home schoolers as some of their strongest applicants, Belfield added it is difficult to determine the number of home-schooled students who have matriculated.  This is because the practice of parents educating their children at home has been legal in most states for only about a decade.

The article, entitled "Colleges Welcome Home-Schoolers," appeared in the February 8 edition of Observer-Reporter.
