Just call them the Reading Buddies. Fifty-three TC graduate students will spend two hours per day, five days per week in a classroom this coming semester helping children learn to read. The Reading Buddies, as they're known, receive three-point scholarships for a semester's work. The program serves children at schools in the TC Education Zone Partnership, with an initial focus on the first, second and third grades. The year-long program is sponsored by the Carmel Hill Fund. Darlyne Bailey, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of Teachers College, spoke to the Reading Buddies at a welcoming event on November 12.
