This Friday, October 6, 2006 @ 5 P.M., the Macy Gallery will host a closing reception for the currently showing exhibition, "Questioning Sculpture." The show was curated by Maurizio Pellegrin and features artists: Harrigan Bowman, Elisa Gerber, Anita Ghei, Jung-Han lee, Hugo Ortega, Eve Pomerantz, Triada Samaras, Elena Stylianou, and Jason Swift.

Maurizio Pellegrin is one of the most important Italian artists of international renown.  He had more than 150 solo exhibitions and 350 group exhibitions in the most important galleries and museums in the world.  He counts more than 35 publications on his art. Born in Venice, Italy, Pellegrin received a doctor in literature and philosophy at the University of Ca'Foscari, Italy, and an MFA equivalient in contemporary art at the Academy of Fine Arts, Venice, Italy. In addition to his instruction at Teachers College, Pellegrin is an associate professor of Paintings and Critique as well as Director of the Venice Program of Studio Art at NYU, and he is also a visiting professor at RISD in Rome.

The MacyGallery is part of the Art and Art Education program of the Department of Arts and Humanities at Teachers College, ColumbiaUniversity. The Gallery exhibits artworks by national and international artists, graduate students and faculty members, as well as the finest examples of children's works.

The mission of this academic Gallery is to present a wide range of exhibitions from around the world reflecting the commitment of Teachers College to cultural diversity in education and the arts.

The Gallery is located on the fourth floor of Macy Hall at 525 West 120th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenues. The Gallery contains 1,377 square feet of floor space and 1,633 square feet of wall space. It is open Monday through Friday 11:00 AM until 6:00 PM, and by appointment. Special arrangements can be made for groups to visit the Gallery and participate in our ongoing Artists' Talks and Lectures.
