“This show, in particular, is really contemporary; it’s about what is going on now in art,” said Macy Gallery Director Heather Van Uxem-Lewis. “It is special because it’s about practicing artists. This is art that belongs in other galleries as well—it just happens that they’re scholars, too.”

The exhibition, which was curated by internationally known artist and TC faculty member Maurizio Pellegrin, includes about 20 works of art, including two works that incorporate video and still-image projection.

Van Uxem-Lewis said that this is the first year the advanced studio students have had a two-week exhibition in the gallery and it is likely the show will become an annual showcase of the artwork developed in the class. The show marks the start of a series of three exhibitions that will feature TC student work. On April 20, the gallery will mount “Student Spring Exhibition: Work from the Studio Classes of Printmaking, Photography, Sculpture and Exploratory Investigation.” On May 4, the gallery is scheduled to exhibit the art of student teachers.

The gallery will hold a reception for the artists of the advance studio class on Friday, April 10, from 5 to 8 p.m. The event is open to the public. Macy Gallery is located on the fourth floor of Macy Hall, and is part of the Art and Art Education program.
