• An October roundtable keyed to the release of "Achievable and Affordable: Providing Comprehensive Educational Opportunity in Low-Income Students," a report by TC's Campaign for Educational Equity that establishes a legal framework for providing the country's neediest children with both improved educational resources and other wrap-around services. Convened by the Campaign's Executive Director, Michael Rebell, and moderated by TC President Susan Fuhrman, the roundtable featured TC alumnus John King, New York State Commissioner of Education; Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers; Mary Anne Schmitt-Carey, President of Say Yes to Education; and David Wakelyn, New York State Deputy Secretary for Education.

• "The Intellectual Legacy of Morton Deutsch," a celebration of the life and legacy of TC's E.L. Thorndike Professor Emeritus, who founded the College's International Center for Cooperation and Conflict Resolution. Speakers at the November event -- which also officially launched Conflict, Interdependence, and Justice: The Intellectual Legacy of Morton Deutsch, a new book  released by ICCCR -- included Deutsch; current ICCCR Director Peter Coleman;  John Jost, of New York University; David Johnson, of the University of Minnesota; and Susan Opotow and Brett Stroudt, both of Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY.

• "The Teacher and the World: A Study of Cosmopolitanism," a November panel discussion of a new book by the same title by David Hansen, TC Professor of Philosophy and Education. Speakers include Hansen; Winston Thompson of New York University;  Eduardo Duarte of Hofstra University; Shaireen Rasheed of Long Island University; Rene V. Arcilla of New York University.

• A November panel discussion on privatization in education in Chile. The speakers are Gregory Elacqua, who served as senior advisor to the Chile’s Minister of Education from 2003 to 2006, and is currently Director of the Public Policy Institute at the School of Economics at Chile’s Universidad Diego Portales; Miguel Urquiola, Associate Professor of International and Public Affairs, and Economics, at Columbia University and also a Faculty Research Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research and co-editor of The Journal of Human Resources; and Henry Levin, the William H. Kilpatrick Professor of Economics and Education at Teachers College and founding director of the National Center for the Study of Privatization in Education. 

• A book talk in early December by Pasi Sahlberg, Director General, Finland Ministry of Education, and author of Finnish Lessons: What Can the U.S. Learn from Educational Change in Finland? (2011, Teachers College Press)
