Two TC faculty members are recognized for an oft-cited paper

A paper published in Gifted Child Quarterly by two TC faculty members, James Borland and Lisa Wright, has been cited more than any other publication in that journal during the past 54 years.

The paper, Identifying Young, Potentially Gifted, Economically Disadvantaged Students, describes procedures developed by Project Synergy, a federally-funded initiative at Teachers College, focused on kindergarten students in urban schools. The procedures employed include site-appropriate methods, observation and dynamic assessment.

This is not the first time that Borland, Professor of Education and Chair of the Department of Curriculum and Teaching Curriculum, and Wright, Director of TC’s Hollingworth Center for the Study and Education of the Gifted, have been honored for their work together. The pair also received the 1999-2000 Mensa Award for their paper, Excellence in Research, for Economically Disadvantaged Students in a School for the Academically Gifted: A Positivist Inquiry into Individual and Family Adjustments, which was published in the Winter 2000 edition of Gifted Child Quarterly.
