This year’s nationally prominent speakers include TC alumnus John King, Jr., New York State’s newly appointed Commissioner of Education; Gary Orfield, Professor and Co-Director, UCLA Civil Rights Project; Jack Jennings, President and CEO of the Center on Education Policy, Patricia Gandara, Professor and Co-Director, UCLA Civil Rights Project, Rhoda Schneider, General Counsel and Senior Associate Commissioner, Massachusetts Department of Education; TC education economist Henry Levin, Director of the National Center for the Study of Privatization in Education; and Jay Heubert, TC Professor of Law and Education. Topics to be covered include charter schools; race, poverty and education; cyber-bullying and other Internet issues; NCLB and the Obama Administration’s Race to the Top program; the rights and needs of English-language learners; fiscal equity and educational adequacy; special education; safety and order; and the free speech rights of students and teachers.
