Ode to Joy: Conductor Benjamin Zander on the Art of the Possible
There's more than one way to sing "Happy Birthday," the world's most frequently rendered song (the melody for which was originally composed at Teachers College). You can drone it tunelessly and then applaud, as happens in homes, conference rooms and restaurants every day -- or you can make the recipient stand on a chair while you sing it to her as though her future depends on it. Benjamin Zander, the conductor, teacher, motivational speaker and co-author of The Art of Possibility, advocated the latter in a recent talk at TC, presented by the College's Spirituality Mind Body Institute.
