A Message from President Fuhrman

"TC has a long history of university-assisted schools starting with the founding of the Speyer School in Harlem in 1902. We renewed that legacy with the creation of the Office of School and Community Partnerships in 2007. In just over three months at the helm of the nation’s largest and most diverse school system, New York City Schools ChancellorCarmen Faria has been on a listening tour through the five boroughs, hearing teacher concerns, personally calling parents on the phone, and seeing for herself how individual schools find ways to innovate. In recognition of his "unparalleled leadership" promoting educational opportunities in Queens, NY, Andr McKenzie (Ed.D. '96), vice president for academic support services at St. John's University (and former TC Alumni Council president), was honored at the borough's annual African American History Month ceremony, held at Queens Borough Hall.

Adam Vane (M.A. '01), Immediate Past President of the Alumni Council, has been named as one of Columbia's 2014 Alumni Medalists! Alumni Medalists are recognized for building Columbia's community-'"whether regionally, online, in specific schools, or in cross-campus initiatives. Read more...

 

TC News

As President Fuhrman promised Academic Festival 2014 was, "an 'intellectual feast' with sessions on topics ranging from movement therapy to arts administration, inclusive education, motor skill learning, climate change, and spirituality. Festival-goers also had the opportunity to visit TC’s high-tech 'classroom of the future,' while those who brought children enjoyed kids’ dance, music and cooking events."Catch up on the #TCAcFest buzz here and "attend" by watching our session videos here.


Convocation Ceremonies
TC has announced the recipients of its 2014 Medal for Distinguished Service, which will be awarded at four convocation ceremonies in May at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. The 2014 medalists, who will also deliver remarks at the ceremonies, are: Sonia Nieto, Professor Emerita of Language, Literacy, and Culture, School of Education, University of Massachusetts, Amherst; Temple Grandin, international champion of autism rights and humane treatment of animals; Rev. Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III, Pastor of Abyssinian Baptist Church; and Nobel laureate Carl Wieman, Chairman of the Board on Science Education of the National Academy of Sciences. Read More...
