On the Chalkbeat New York website, TC's Aaron Pallas, professor of sociology and education, says it makes sense that Mayor Bill de Blasio has given New York City turnaround schools more time to meet their renewal goals. One reason is that deep reform doesn't happen overnight; schools need more than the one year originally given to them. Lengthening the target to three years also makes political sense, Pallas says, because the Mayor opens himself to criticism if schools fail to meet their targets.
