Ashley is a Doctoral Candidate of Applied Linguistics at Teachers College, Columbia University, specializing in second language acquisition (SLA). Her main research interests include task-based language teaching, child SLA, and individual differences. She teaches graduate-level courses related to language acquisition and pedagogy, and has eight years of teaching experience with language learners located around the world, including Argentina, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Bronx, NY.
Zhizi (ZZ) is a doctoral student in Applied Linguistics at Teachers College, Columbia University. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Master’s Degree of Science in Education (Teaching, Learning, and Leadership), where she also worked as a Graduate Research Assistant for the Wharton Business School. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in English Language and Literature from the English College, Shanghai International Studies University (上外). She also has been working as a conference and live speech interpreter at more than 80 international conferences, for clients that include a U. S. Federal Chief Judge, governors, embassy ambassadors, the Chairman of the Nobel Prize Committee, provincial and municipal government senior officials, chairmen of some of the largest companies in the world, Nobel Prize Winner and city mayors.
Before joining Teachers College, she worked as a full-time lecturer teaching translation/conference interpreting, English debating, and English public speaking courses to English majors for two universities in China for four years, and for NC State University and Elon University as an adjunct lecturer.
When she is not busy, you will find her gardening, oil-painting, or trying to break her own DDR/Pump-It-Up record at Dave and Buster's.
Kevin Wang was born and raised in Ningxia, China, a beautiful place known as the Oasis in the Hinterland. He has a B.A. in English from Ningxia University and an M.A. in TESOL & Bilingual Education from Boston University. His interest in philosophy began in middle school and has continued to grow, influencing his outlook on life. Before joining TC to study philosophy, Kevin worked in various sectors, including higher education, international schools, language schools, and corporate settings, holding both teaching and executive roles. As an enthusiastic language learner and educator, his passion for linguistic pursuits led him to philosophy, especially drawing inspiration from Buddhist teachings. Kevin is always ready to engage in philosophical conversations about educational matters. He also loves reading, video games, going to the gym, and cooking.

Ruixin Liu holds a master and bachelor degree in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language and is continuing to work towards her Master in Teachers College, Columbia University. She has taught Chinese and English for 3 years. Prior to coming to the United States, Ruixin taught Mandarin in a primary school in London, the United Kingdom, where she found joy in differentiating lesson plans and incorporating hands-on activities. Ruixin's connection with Columbia University started with tutoring for the Department of East Asian Language and Culture Department. She is excited to join the CIFLTE team and hopes she could bring her experiences in dual immersion programs and bilingual education to the Center!
