Movement Science and Education

Welcome to the Movement Science & Education program

The Movement Science & Education program approaches the study of movement from a multi-disciplinary perspective. Our focus is on the practical applications of science and theory in the laboratory, clinic, school and community and our students gain hands-on experience putting research into practice. Coursework emphasizes the scientific and theoretical core of physiology, behavioral science, neural bases of movement control, and pedagogy. We have long been a pioneer in the field of movement science and our doctoral programs are among the best in the nation.

The Physical Education program is not taking students for the 2023-2024 school year.

The program is designed for individuals who wish to pursue careers in educational settings, including school PE, fitness gyms, physical activity and health community–based organizations, and sports and recreational settings. In addition to offering outstanding graduate courses in movement science (e.g. motor learning, motor development, and exercise physiology), this program offers individuals a distinctive humanistic perspective on the education of the body.
