Scholarly Interests

Arden Armbruster is a researcher focused on public funding for the arts. She is a lead budget and policy analyst at the NYC Independent Budget Office, where she provides insights to the public, elected officials, and the press about the city’s spending on cultural affairs, libraries, and the criminal legal system. Her work at IBO has been cited by news outlets including Gothamist, Politico, and NYT Close Up. Recent publications include "Money, Money, Monet: Identifying New York City Payments to Cultural Nonprofit Organizations" and "A Shrinking System with Similar Spending: A Decade of Jail Trends (2014–2023)." Prior to joining IBO, Arden was a cultural events producer at organizations such as The New York Public Library and Symphony Space, company manager for a contemporary classical music ensemble, and a William R. Kenan Fellow at Lincoln Center Education.
