Information Sessions
We invite you to participate in a Zoom information session hosted by Dr. Lora Sporny of the Program in Nutrition. Each 2-hour information session includes:
- an overview of the rich history of our Program in Nutrition
- a detailed description of our Integrated MS-RDN degrees that will prepare you to become a registered dietitian-nutritionist (RDN)
- a step-by-step approach to preparing an application for admission to our Program in Nutrition
During each information session, you will have an opportunity to ask questions while becoming familiar with a program that is committed to enhancing equity and inclusion while providing a supportive environment for students of diverse backgrounds.
We welcome applications from career-changers as well as those who studied nutrition as undergraduate students. If you are a career-changer, learn more about transitioning to a career in nutrition here.
Our comprehensive master’s curriculum and supervised worksite practice prepare graduates to become nutrition leaders in research, advocacy, and behavior change strategies to inspire healthy physical activity and food choices, to prevent and manage diet-related medical conditions, to transform the food system, and to improve food access.
Each month there are two Zoom information sessions. The first information session is from 6:00-8:00 p.m. (ET) on the 2nd Friday and the second information session is from 9:00-11:00 a.m. (ET) on the 4th Tuesday.

Transition to a Career in Nutrition
Our program welcomes career changers from all backgrounds who are interested in entering the nutrition field. It is possible to become a registered dietitian-nutritionist (RDN) even if your existing bachelor’s degree was not in nutrition. Our master’s degrees in nutrition prepare you to be a well-qualified and marketable RDN who can take on different roles, from entry-level to leadership, in a wide variety of settings within the nutrition field. Our degrees are accredited by ACEND and will prepare you to take the national credentialing examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Furthermore, as of January 2024, anyone interested in becoming an RDN will be required by the Commission on Dietetic Registration to have a master’s degree.
Master's Degrees
The Program in Nutrition at Teachers College offers three MS-RDN degrees in:
- Nutrition Education (50 credits)
- Nutrition and Public Health (50 credits)
- Nutrition and Exercise Physiology (57 credits)
Each of our MS degrees consists of the same core courses plus additional courses allowing for specialization in the respective areas. Each Integrated MS-RDN degree also offers the supervised experiential learning opportunities required to become an RDN. These occur both within the classroom and at community, clinical, nutrition education, media, research, and food service worksite locations. For more information on the steps required to become a Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist, please click How To Become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
To be eligible to apply to our master’s program, undergraduate-level science prerequisite courses are necessary. Successful completion of the prerequisite courses will enable you to attend graduate courses in nutrition and glean all that is necessary from these courses.
Please note that your existing bachelor’s degree does not need to be in nutrition to complete a master’s degree in nutrition.
To learn more, please join Dr. Lora Sporny during a Zoom information session.
