Meet Our Staff

Lucy Byrne is a Program Coordinator of Coaching and Programming at TC NEXT. In this role Lucy will help expand career development workshops and program initiatives, as well as advising TC students and alumni. She has a Bachelor's degree in Criminology and Linguistics from Hofstra University. Her greatest passions are in social justice, specifically penal abolition and forensic linguistic research in capital cases. Lucy’s experience includes work in vocational rehabilitation with marginalized communities, linguistic analysis, along with public speaking and debate.

Laura Coleman (she/her) is the Senior Associate Director of TC NEXT, the career and professional development center at Teachers College, Columbia University (New York, NY). In this role she leads a team whose scope of work encompasses employer relations, data and systems management, marketing and mass communications, and on-campus student employment. Laura spearheads relationships with a network of thousands of TC NEXT employer partners and develops opportunities for students and alumni to connect with hiring managers across a wide variety of industries. 

Previously Laura was the Associate Director of Alumni & Employer Relations at Sotheby’s Institute of Art (New York, NY) where she developed new alumni engagement initiatives, oversaw campus recruitment programs, and produced professional development events. Laura began her career in higher education at Valparaiso University (Valparaiso, IN), primarily serving in the role of Associate Director for International Admission, leading strategic planning for international undergraduate student enrollment and overseeing application review and scholarship awarding. 

Laura is an active member of several regional and national career services and student affairs professional organizations and has given talks and presented at conferences on career services curriculum development, a pathways model of success for graduate students, and career transitions within the higher education sector. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from Bucknell University and a Master of Arts degree in Anthropology & Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, where she undertook an independent research project focused on working adults’ decisions to pursue additional education. In addition to her professional endeavors she is a proud aunt, pet lover, gardener, and avid reader.

Tiffany serves as the Associate Director of Coaching & Programming at TC NEXT. Through experiential learning opportunities, customized programs and up-to-date coaching models, Tiffany will guide the coaching & programming team to deliver high-quality opportunities for TC students and alumni through all stages of their career lifecycle. As a coach and higher education practitioner, she is extremely passionate about helping students navigate their professional and academic careers with ease. She believes in empowering students at every point of their career journey by identifying strengths, exploring their interests, and creating meaningful connections between their past and future aspirations.

Prior to joining TC NEXT, Tiffany served as the Assistant Director of Career Development at NYU, where she oversaw programming and operations as well as provided one-on-one coaching to support students as they developed their professional brand and navigated their job search. Prior to her time at NYU, she served in a variety of roles in higher education, serving students in residential life, multicultural affairs, admissions and access programs at FIU, CUNY, St. John’s, Johns Hopkins, and Harvard University.

She holds a BS in Legal Studies from St. John’s University, MS in Higher Education Administration from Florida International University, and is an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) with the International Coaching Federation. She looks forward to working with you and being of service to the TC Community.

Uyanga is the Assistant Director of Employment Partnerships at TC NEXT. In this role she develops partnerships with employers to provide career networking opportunities for students and alumni. Uyanga has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Education from Clark University. Previously, Uyanga was a kindergarten teacher in the US and abroad in international schools across China. Additionally, she has worked with domestic and international students in a variety of roles, such as an Admissions Counselor and Risk and Safety coordinator, spearheading counseling in higher education and employment opportunities. Uyanga is more than happy to assist in Mongolian and in Russian.

Emily (she/her) is the Assistant Director of Data and Operations of TC NEXT. In this role, she manages office-wide operations and data-management in support of the ongoing development and execution of data-driven, strategic goals for the team at TC NEXT, with an emphasis on career outcomes for recent graduates. 

Prior to joining TC NEXT, Emily was a Clinical Case Manager with the NYC Criminal Justice Agency where she worked with individuals released under pretrial supervision, connecting them with necessary social services and advocating for them as they navigated the pretrial court process. Previously, she also developed strategic partnerships for the National Council for Mental Wellbeing and supported research on mental health, resilience, and student career services in research labs at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice and Rutgers University. 

Emily holds Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and English Literature from Oglethorpe University, and a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She is eager to support the TC community through her work in TC NEXT. 

Sabeen Sheikh is the Director of TC NEXT at Teacher College, Columbia University working in student affairs, career services, and higher education for over 10 years. Sabeen has an Ed.D. in Educational Policy and Leadership and a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. Sabeen’s work spans over career and student development in higher education, and addressing mental health issues in various communities. Her experience includes work in strength-based counseling, career coaching, social justice, domestic violence, undoing racism, and student leadership development.

Sabeen is a Lecturer in the Higher Education Administration Program for the School of Professional Development at Stony Brook University and has previously taught in Hofstra University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She currently serves on the founding board of a grassroots nonprofit, Heal Collective NY, and is a Certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor with the National Council of Behavioral Health, and American Muslim Health Professionals.

Genevieve Thévenin, an Academy Certified Resume Writer (ACRW), is a career and academic coach dedicated to serving diverse student populations, including international students, nontraditional students, and underserved students. She has over ten years of experience in coaching, advising, tutoring, and teaching students across secondary, higher, and postsecondary education.  At TC NEXT, she provides resume/cover letter/curriculum vitae review, job search strategies, salary negotiation advice, and interview preparation to TC students and alumni, helping hundreds of students secure jobs and internships. 

Genevieve also supports the development of workshops, learning modules, and professional development opportunities, such as co-leading the TC NEXT Alumni Mentorship Program. She has a proven record of meaningful connections through one-on-one coaching. An engaging facilitator and speaker, Genevieve is a huge advocate for the use of campus resources to support students on their educational journey. In addition to her work in career coaching, her mission is to empower individuals to achieve financial independence, break systematic barriers, and shatter glass ceilings.

Outside of her immediate professional role, she also serves on the Staff Advocacy and Support Council (SASC). Genevieve’s community engagement extends beyond TC as she currently serves as the Recording Secretary for the Association of Black Women in Higher Education (ABWHE), New York Chapter. Genevieve enjoys volunteering and is currently a volunteer ESL Teacher with Community Impact at Columbia University— Adult Education Center and works as an Educational Consultant for the Computer Lab at Broadway Community, Inc. supporting unhoused individuals in learning computer skills, navigating the internet, and job searching. Her passion for community development also extends to the volunteer work she does at her church, Lifeline Restoration Ministries, Inc. In her spare time Genevieve enjoys travel, taking dance classes, and spending time with her family being an aunt and godmother. 

Karina began her career in higher education at UC Berkeley where she worked in Human Resources coordinating arrivals of visiting scholars. Prior to joining TC Next, she worked at the Columbia University Medical Center as the Program Manager of Student Research in the Office of Medical Education, where she developed resources and enhanced platforms to support students navigating scholarly projects.

Karina grew up in Oakland, California and is a community college graduate.  She holds a BA in Sociology from UC Berkeley, and is an alum of the Higher and Postsecondary Education program at TC. She is passionate about empowering students to achieve both personal and professional goals, and cultivating safe spaces for belonging.

Bayla is pursuing her M.S. in communication sciences and disorders in order to pursue a career in speech language pathology. She is passionate about creating accessible therapy services for those living in underprivileged communities. In this role, Bayla focuses on building relationships with students, alumni, and employers. Bayla is originally from a small suburb outside of Boston. She completed her undergraduate degree in psychology in May of 2023  at Binghamton University. 

Erika is a Master's student in the Cognitive Science in Education program at Teachers College. She is passionate about enhancing students' learning experiences through data-driven insights and technological innovations. Prior to TC, she earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Edinburgh. In her role at TC NEXT, Erika applies her knowledge to develop effective communications and program materials that help students navigate their employment journey. She is excited to bring her understanding of learning processes and talent development to support TC students in their professional growth!

Keren is a first-year graduate student in the Communication Sciences and Disorders program with a Bilingual Extension in Spanish. She is passionate about providing speech therapy to children from minority communities, with a strong commitment to practicing cultural humility. As a Career Peer with TC NEXT, Keren supports both current students and alumni, offering assistance with document reviews, interview preparation, and job search strategies. She graduated from The College of New Jersey in May 2024 with a B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Keren is excited to apply her knowledge and skills to support the office as well as bilingual populations.

Nafiza Tarannum is actively pursuing her Masters of Education in School Counseling at Teachers College, driven by her passion for a future career in guiding high school students. She is passionate about counseling students from marginalized communities with cultural backgrounds where the topic of mental health is considered taboo. In this role, she provides coaching and programming for TC alumni navigating their career pathways. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from The City College of New York in 2022 with a Bachelors in Communications and minors in Publishing, Art and Creative Writing.
